At Seaside Cottage School, we have a short year and a short week. Why? Children need time to ride bikes, play games, make mud pies, take walks, climb trees, and notice things they're usually too busy rushing past.
Seaside students have the time to develop a relationship with the material presented to them and never lose their innate love of learning.
Seaside students are curious, creative, analytical, and confident.
Our curriculum is natural and intuitive. For centuries, children learned writing, arithmetic, history, literature, and proper grammar from good books. Seaside students read many books and also study famous artists, composers, and people who have shaped our world. As we develop relationships with those whom we study, they become our friends, companions, and advisors. They stay with us.
At the end of each Term, students present all they have learned orally or in written essay examinations. A display of their work and participation in Recitation Night allow family and friends to join in the joy.
All of the students look forward to Tea Time. The highlight of our day! Interesting and fun table conversations with the manners of young ladies and gentlemen.
The menu never changes: crackers, cheese, and fruit. Students serve each other and bus the tables when we are through.
